Bonobo Featuring Nick Murphy, Alicia Keys, Ed Sheeran Lead Top Songs Of The Week - January 13
Thu, 12 Jan 2017 17:21:14
It was a huge week when it came to new songs being released. Ed Sheeran returned and shattered Spotify streaming records with his two new tracks, "Shape Of You" and "Castle On The Hill". Alicia Keys dropped a new tune as well, "Sweet F'in Love", which did not appear on her new album. The track sees her pairing up with one of 2016's hottest producers, Kaytranada.
Speaking of excellent pairings, British artist/producer/DJ Bonobo teamed up with Nick Murphy, formerly known as Chet Faker, for a song on his new LP, Migration. And just to round out collaborations, Big Sean got together with Chance the Rapper and Jeremih for a new track, "Living Single". And that was only the beginning for a week filled with stunning new songs.
Here are our favorites:
Alicia Keys — "Sweet F'in Love" [Produced by Kaytranada]
Kaytranada was one of the hottest producers of 2016, and his debut album 99.9% blew many away. On the record he paired with Anderson .Paak, Vic Mensa, and Craig David to name a few, and it looks like Alicia Keys was paying attention. "Sweet F'in Love" is one of her finest outputs in years.
Bonobo — "No Reason" [ft. Nick Murphy, fka Chet Faker]
Bonobo's new album Migration is out today, and on it the British producer/DJ pairs up with a variety of the finest names in music, including Rhye and Nick Murphy. This week, Bonobo premiered "No Reason" featuring the artist formerly known as Chet Faker.
Big Sean — "Living Single" [ft. Chance the Rapper, Jeremih]
"Living Single" was originally a Chance the Rapper track that got dropped after it was leaked in early 2016. Big Sean, however, took the track over and has released it in celebration of the success of "Bounce Back".
Japandroids — "No Known Drink Or Drug"
In two weeks, we will all finally get to hear the new Japandroids record, Near To The Wild Heart Of Life. In the meantime, the band released "No Known Drink Or Drug" to wet our appetites.
Ed Sheeran — "Shape Of You"
Both of Ed Sheeran's new tracks, "Shape Of You" and "Castle On The Hill", shattered Spotify single day streaming records. Each song garnered over six million plays, with "Shape Of You", gathering a couple hundred thousand more than "Castle On The Hill". Making "Shape of You" the most successful streaming track within its first day.
