Boy George and Culture Club have reunited for the first time in a decade. The group will perform at a New Year's Eve show in Australia. Oh, but that's not all. New music is on the way, as well.
The band partnered up in the studio in advance of the Sydney Resolution Concert Series, which will also feature performances from Jamiroquai and the Pet Shop Boys. Wow, holy '80s and '90s splash.
Culture Club's Roy Hay told Australia's Channel Seven: "Last time we got together was 10 years ago, so it takes that long to recover from the last time we worked with each other." Must be a "toxic" working environment if it takes a decade to record, right?
This won't be just a one-off, cash grab show, either! It will lead to new music. Hay said, "That's the thing that makes us want to come back and do it, is to write new songs and put some new material out as well as play the old ones."
Flamboyant frontman Boy George commented, "The nostalgia thing is OK but it's a bit limited so for us to come and do this and enjoy it; we need to kind of do something new and incorporate the two things – the past and now." So he needs to be creatively stimulated by the reunion, instead of just playing songs fans want to hear. It's a win-win for fans and the band members.
