Poison frontman and reality star Bret Michaels suffered a brain hemorrhage on Friday and has been in critical condition under a doctor's care ever since. Michaels suffered from a terrible headache last Thursday night and was ultimately rushed to the emergency room, where doctors discovered the massive hemorrhage and bleeding at the base of his brain. People was the first to report this sad news.
As of press time, the 47-year-old Michaels was in critical condition and underwent several CAT scans, MRIs and an angiogram. Doctors have elected to keep the star in ICU and are running tests to determine the cause of the bleeding. Michaels underwent an emergency appendectomy two weeks ago and is a diabetic; it is unclear whether the conditions are related to the hemorrhage.
In a weekend Facebook and official website post, the following report on Michaels' condition was provided: "Everyone at Michaels Entertainment would like to thank all fans and friends for their continued thoughts and prayers through this difficult time. At this point, Bret remains in ICU in critical condition. He is under 24-hour doctors' care and supervision. We are hopeful that further tests will locate the source of the bleeding, which has still not been located. As we all know Bret is a fighter and we are hopeful that once all is complete the slurred speech, blurred vision and dizziness, etc. will be eliminated and all functions will return to normal. More information will be posted as it becomes available. There are several incorrect reports on Bret's condition. Bret remains in critical condition at an undisclosed location. Further tests are being ran and information will be updated in the coming days."
After his appendectomy, Michaels posted notes on his progress while recording, noting that had he gone on stage instead of cancelling the show and heading to the hospital to undergo the appendectomy, doctors said he would have died. Michaels is also currently on this season's Celebrity Apprentice on NBC.
Send your prayers out for his speedy recovery. Who was your favorite '80s glam metal band?
