Bret Michaels Suing Concert Promoter for $5 Million

Bret Michaels is having quite the year. When the doo-rag sporting singer showed up at a venue in Syracuse, New York two weeks ago to perform a concert, he was slapped with the knowledge that the show had been postponed without his knowledge. No one bothered to tell Michaels that the show was canceled.
The incident pissed Bret off enough to file a $5 million lawsuit against the concert promoter who allegedly claimed that the show didn't happen because Michaels was going to appear on TV instead. Turns out, the show, America's Got Talent, was taped, so the promoter got a bit confused. Sounds like said promoter was a technology caveman, if he assumed that Michaels could not make the gig because he had other commitments. Perhaps he should have asked.
Michaels is suing the promoter for breaching his contract and exposing him to public contempt and ridicule with allegedly defamatory statements about his schedule. Michaels was quoted as saying he believes the promoter backed out of the show due to financial problems and chose to blame it on Michaels instead.
Is Michaels in the right here?
