Brian May Explains Why Sacha Baron Cohen Exited Freddie Mercury Biopic

Sacha Baron Cohen aka Borat was slated to play Freddie Mercury in a biopic about the flawless singer. He exited amid claims that he wanted it to be too real and too raunchy. Queen guitarist Brian May has weighed in on why SBC exited.
"What led us to that conclusion was the last three movies that he's made – The Dictator, Les Misérables and Hugo – in which he makes outstanding performances, but they're very much Sacha Baron Cohen performances," May said. That was a diplomatic way of May saying that people see the actor and the comic, and they think Sacha or his characters and that may distract from them seeing him as Freddie.
Hmm, we don't agree with that. SBC seemed PERFECT to inhabit Mercury and bring him to the big screen.
"And we thought there has to be no distraction in the Freddie movie. You have to really suspend that disbelief – the man who plays Freddie, you have to really believe is Freddie. And we didn't think that could really happen with Sacha," May said.
Still, the split was amicable.
"It's a shame that there were these sensationalist stories about him walking out. None of that was true," May said. "Because we owe Sacha a lot. He had so much enthusiasm for the project and it really helped us kick it into the start position."
We think SBC was PERFECT to play Mercury. Really. We could have suspended disbelief.
Who do you think could play Freddie Mercury, the LEGEND?
