Britney Spears' first offering since 2003's In the Zone has now been delayed until 2008. The album was initially reported to have a late 2007 release date, but Spears' representative Leslie Sloane Zelnik says that not only is there no album, she is in essence no longer working with the trouble pop star. "I put her on hiatus," Sloane Zelnik explained. "Brit's album is pushed until '08. If she has no album, there's no reason to do anything. I'm representing her in theory right now. I said that since the album is pushed back until '08, let's go on hiatus until we have a campaign to do."
In the meantime, up-and-coming hip-hop producer JR Rotem is allegedly in the studio with Spears, but according to the weekly tabloid Life & Style magazine, the label executives are not pleased with the results. "I'm surprised the album has not been pushed back to '09," said an anonymous music industry insider. "Jive [Spears' record label] hated the songs Britney was coming up with, except a few. The executives are not happy."
