Brooklyn Rap Phenom Junglepussy to Release Sophomore Album, Pregnant With Success

There’s an old expression: What the world needs now is more...female rappers. Need some motivation in your life? Just throw on Missy Elliott’s "Work It." Looking for a confidence boost? Time for Queen Latifah’s "Ladies First." As controversial as MCs like Iggy Azalea or Lil' Kim can sometimes be, there’s nothing like a little female-fronted hip-hop to make you feel like you can take on the world.
Standing to inherit a considerable portion of that legacy is 23-year-old Brooklyn rapper Junglepussy, aka Shayna McHayle, who will drop her second album, Pregnant With Success, next week in New York at an unofficial CMJ showcase with Fool's Gold R&B singer Bosco and Milwaukee rapper Webster X. Junglepussy’s braggadocio rivals the likes of Elliott and Latifah, but her smooth lyrical flow and playful-yet-consciousness-raising lyrics puts her on par with acts like avant space rappers THEESatisfaction and original neo soul goddess Erykah Badu.
Junglepussy’s style is fierce, which give her words added weight. Take a listen to last year’s single "Nah," with its lyrics like: "I seen you eating Mickey D's, knew you didn't love yourself/I'm up in Trader Joe's, shopping cart full of health." It’s a message of wellness and empowerment packaged in sick, slick beats you can’t ignore.
