Bruno Mars Formally Charged With Criminal Possession of Controlled Substance

Hitmaker Bruno Mars has been formally charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance. Mars' single "Just the Way You Are" is enjoying its second straight week atop the charts so these charges, which stem from his September 19 arrest in Las Vegas' Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, where the 5.0 reportedly found 2.6 grams of cocaine on him, must cast a bit of a shadow on his success.
Mars is due to report to court on November 18. If he is convicted, he faces one to four years in prison and a $5,000 fine. However, EW pointed out that if Mars has no prior convictions, Nevada law dictates that his sentence would be automatically suspended and he would be put on probation instead. Let's hope Mars's record is as clean as a whistle so he can avoid the harsher penalties.
Mars' label Elektra Records issued the following innocuous statement about the pop star's predicament: "We congratulate Bruno Mars on his chart topping success, and provide him with our full love and support." That, my friends, is the art of being diplomatic.
Do you dig Mars' single, "Just the Way You Are?"
