The MPAA has given Sacha Baron Cohen's forthcoming Bruno
the undesired NC-17 rating due to objections over sexually-explicit scenes. Universal plans to re-edit the film in order to get an amended and more commercially viable R rating. The film is due in theaters on July 10. Any deleted sequences will probably be relegated to the film's eventual DVD release.
In the film, Baron Cohen plays a gay fashionista from Austria. The comedian endured a similar ratings situation with his breakthrough effort, 2006's Borat. That raunchy film was also edited down in order to achieve an R rating.
