Actor/director/Ben's brother Casey Affleck isn't taking the sexual harassment claims made by a producer on his I'm Still Here: The Lost Year of Joaquin Phoenix documentary lying down! Affleck is now claiming that he was the victim of an extortion plot and is asking California's Superior Court to settle the case in arbitration instead of letting it go to a jury. I thought that the questionable subject matter – Phoenix's eyebrow-raising transition from actor to rap star- was enough to sink this doc, but it's now fraught with legal drama. Despite these issues, and the fact that Affleck has never shied away from taking seriously creepy roles on screen, the actor is fighting mad!
In a motion filed yesterday, Affleck's attorney claimed that Amanda White, the producer, has "concocted this fabricated sexual harassment lawsuit over a year after she failed in her devious attempt [to] extort a better production deal by walking off the film…" Affleck also says that White's original contract on the film requires her to settle any production-related legal matters in arbitration.
