Last week, French electronic duo Cassius released their newest single "Action," featuring the Beastie Boys' Mike D and Cat Power. Today, the toothsome twosome unveiled the video for the track. Directed by TOILET PAPER, it features the band along with their collaborators on the imaginary tropical island, Ibifornia. Full of gorillas, tiki drinks, and fiery volcanos the band eventually anger the aforementioned primates end up being tossed in the volcano.
Mike D told Pitchfork about the track, "in a sense capturing that era of a Compass Point record that gets played in the Loft in New York City, but today." He went on to tell Pitchfork about the collaboration and how it came about, "Zdar was playing tracks for him (Mike D) and Marshall in New York City. "I did bring a couple bottles of wine to the studio. And then started writing my part and went from there,"" Mike D told the outlet before adding, "The song came with this world liberation theme and then I came with a modern-day relationship theme, and somehow the two went together. It's kind of like toast and Vegemite go together only in Australia."
Cassius has not released an album since 2006's 15 Again, and have not made any announcements about plans for new music in the future. However, they did unveil that they had recently visited Phoenix in the studio, and that they are working on a new album. Zdar went on to tell Pitchfork about the new Phoenix album, "It's really something happening and really new in a way."
