Catherine Hardwicke may have moved on from Twilight, but she isn't wasting any time between projects. The director is in discussions with Columbia Pictures to develop and direct a feature adaptation of the young-adult fantasy novel series, Maximum Ride. The series has produced five volumes and was written by James Patterson.
The Maximum Ride series follows six teens dubbed The Flock. Members of The Flock are genetically altered to be half-human, half-bird. They learn to fly and leave the laboratory where they've been living and are eventually hunted by creatures known as The Erasers, who are part-human, part-wolf. The screenplay is currently being penned by Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer scribe Don Payne.
Harwdicke will also direct Stay for Summit, a fantasy drama based on the children's novel of the same name. The book is about a classical musician and her indie rock star boyfriend who are forced to choose between life and death after a car accident. This pairing mends the fence between the studio and the director, who parted over a difference of opinion on the production time frame for the Twilight sequel New Moon.
