Cee Lo Green makes Christmas cool with Cee Lo's Magic Moment. He makes it real cool too. We're talking Shaft- and Al Green-level cool.
On his first Christmas album, one of the 21st century best and brightest voices gives everyone's favorite holiday some swagger. "What Christmas Means To Me" bounces on a thumping bass line as Green guides the track into a bliss of "all these things and more" that he digs about the big December day. It's an upbeat and fun number rife with soul.
Speaking of soul, he and Christina Aguilera team up for a sultry take on "Baby, It's Cold Outside" driven by both of their elegant deliveries and an orchestral bombast. Enlisting a little help from Straight No Chaser, Green tackles "You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch" with a theatrical panache that'd make Dr. Seuss proud. "White Christmas" reaches some epic heights carried by his pipes, while Rod Stewart and Trombone Shorty join the party for "Merry Christmas, Baby".
One of many standouts, "All I Need Is Love", has got to be the feistiest Christmas anthem yet, especially with The Muppets riding this sleigh too. Christmas doesn't get any cooler than that…welcome to a new holiday classic, Cee Lo's Magic Moment.
