Fresh off postponing shows for her Las Vegas residency due to a voice ailment, French-Canadian songbird Celine Dion has confirmed that she is putting her career on hiatus so that she can properly care for her husband and onetime manager Rene Angelil, 72. Dion's family remains her first priority, understandably so.
Dion's tour of Asia and her Sin City residency are on hold for now.
Angelil had a cancerous throat tumor removed last December; he previously battled throat cancer in 1999. He also stepped down as his wife's day-to-day manager earlier this summer. They have been married for 20 years and he managed her for 30.
A statement from Dion's team read as follows: "Celine Dion has decided to postpone all of her show business activities indefinitely, in order to focus 100 percent of her attention on her husband Rene, their family, and associated health issues."
"I want to devote every ounce of my strength and energy to my husband's healing, and to do so, it's important for me to dedicate this time to him and to our children. I also want to apologize to all my fans everywhere, for inconveniencing them, and I thank them so much for their love and support," Dion, 46, said in her statement.
The couple has three children.
We send our very best out to Celine, Rene and their family on taking care of their family and their health! Those are MOST important! Her fans can and will wait until everything sorts itself out. She will take the stage again, stronger than ever, and beguile us with that beautiful voice of hers, once her personal and family life is in order.
