Dang, they got this one by us! Canadians Chad Kroeger, the lead singer and guitarist of Nickelback, and pop punk princess Avril Lavigne have announced their engagement. Shit, we didn't even know they were dating. They kept this one on the QT. More power to 'em.
According to PEOPLE, Lavigne, 27, and Kroeger, 37, first got together in February to co-write a song for Lavigne's upcoming fifth studio album. Love blossomed from there, even though she was most recently and publicly dating Brody Jenner. We're still shocked that they kept this quiet right under our noses. How the hell did these two blondes manage to be so sniff-proof?
"A romantic relationship blossomed as they spent time writing together," a Lavigne pal told the weekly.
On Aug. 8, Kroeger popped the question, giving Lavigne with a 14-carat diamond. It'll be his first marriage and her second; she wed Sum 41's Deryck Whibley, but we all know how that ended.
Will this thoroughly Canadian marriage last?
