Chance the Rapper and Childish Gambino, aka Donald Glover, may finally be working on their collaborative album. Yesterday, Chance posted an Instagram photo of the two artists with the words, "Hawaii then LA, back to work. #roscoeswetsuit." The hashtag is a reference to the screenplay that was released as a companion to Gambino's 2014 LP, Because the Internet. The record featured a collaboration between the two, "The Worst Guys".
Rumors about a collaboration between the two began back in 2014, when Chance appeared during Gambino's set during 2014's Governors Ball, after which the latter hinted the two would be working on an EP together. Last May, Chance confirmed the collaboration was still happening.
Today, Chance the Rapper was announced as a headliner for 2017's Governors Ball in New York. The festival is set to take place June 2nd through 4th on Randall's Island. Gambino is also set to make an appearance of his own at the festival.
Yesterday, John Cale — formerly of The Velvet Underground — announced that he is working on a new album that is influenced by a variety of hip hop artists including Chance, as well as Donnie Trumpet, Earl Sweatshirt, Vince Staples, Mike WiLL Made-It, Domo Genesis, and others. The announcement came during Savages' Jehnny Beth's Beats 1 show, "Start Making Sense".
Back in December, Childish Gambino released his third studio LP, "Awaken, My Love!".
