Fifty-three charities will host official Oscar telecast viewing parties on Sunday, February 22, the day of the Oscar ceremony and broadcast. The viewing parties are part of Oscar Night America, the grassroots outreach program of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which has been in existence since 1994 and has generated $24 million in funding for a variety of charitable organizations.
For Oscar Night America, the Academy sanctions charities across America to host celebratory viewing parties, with proceeds from the events directly benefiting the charities. The parties feature a live broadcast of the Awards, red carpet arrivals, local celebrity guests, paparazzi style photographers, "predict the winner" contests, and live entertainment when applicable. Each party is supplied with copies of the commemorative poster, official ceremony programs for guests, and other materials.
A complete list of venues, locations, and ticket info for local ONA parties is available at www.oscar.com.
