Oscar winning actor Charlton Heston, known for his epic roles in biblically-themed movies like Ben Hur, and for portraying Moses, has died. He passed away at home in Beverly Hills, CA. He was 84-years-old. No cause of death has been specified, although it was announced in 2002 that the actor was suffering from Alzheimer's Disease.
The actor, who garnered a spate of somewhat negative publicity in recent years as president of and spokesman for the NRA, became known later in life for his conservative, political views. His role with the NRA caused strife with the Screen Actors Guild, the organization of which he was once President. He was famously interviewed in Michael Moore's Bowling For Columbine documentary about gun control, where he walked out during Moore's questions probing his stance on the issue of illegally obtained firearms.
Heston is survived by his wife, son, daughter, and three grandchildren.
