Cheap Trick are suing the powers-that-be at the Ottawa Bluesfest due to a 2011 incident when a storm blew through, forcing the band off the stage. The stage then buckled from the wind, with three people ending up going to the hospital.
Now the band is suing for $1 million for "putting economic considerations over safety and not checking the stability of the stage and not preparing the staff for how to handle an emergency." So in essence, Cheap Trick says the event bosses were being CHEAP about safety measures.
The band is also suing the companies who built the stage, the sound and the lighting rigs. They are seeking $400,000 to replace the musical equipment like guitars, amps and drums that were destroyed and another $600,000 for other special damages.
Do incidents like these –a stage collapse-- make you wary of attending concerts and concerned for your safety?
