Chris Cornell and a handful of other artists are set to appear on an upcoming album featuring Johnny Cash's poetry. Titled Johnny Cash Forever Words: The Music, the record was put together by Cash's son, John Carter Cash. John Carter invited Cornell to participate before his death.
Last year, John Carter published Forever Words: The Unknown Poems, a book of his father's poetry. However, the project stemmed from when Brad Paisley set one of Cash's poems to music for his album, Love and War. Joining Cornell and Paisley on the Cash written album are Jewel, T-Bone Burnett, Kacey Musgraves, and many others.
Cash and Cornell were not unaccustomed to working with each other work. In 1996, Cash covered Soundgarden's "Rusty Cage" off their 1991 record Badmotorfinger.
A new music video featuring one of the final songs Chris Cornell wrote and recorded before his death titled "The Promise" was also released today. The song was created for the Terry George-directed film of the same name. Set in the wake of the Armenian genocide, the film starred Christian Bale and Oscar Isaac. The new video features clips of Cornell performing the song, interspersed with footage from different refugee crises recorded in Libya, Syria, and other war-torn countries. Watch it below.
