Angels & Demons is set to bow on May 15, surrounded by controversy from religious groups. But that isn't stopping Columbia Pictures from ordering a third film in the Tom Hanks-led franchise that kicked off with The Da Vinci Code.
Author Dan Brown's The Lost Symbol is due out on bookshelves on September 15, with Doubleday releasing an astonishing five million copies. Sources claim the manuscript is complete. The studio will act fast in developing and filming the third film based on Symbol.
In other Angels news, the Catholic Bishops Conference of India has demanded that the film be banned in the country. The CBCI claims that the film hurts religious sentiments, since Christianity is not fully "understood" by a majority of Indians and the film's depiction of the religion may be perceived as the truth. The organization is apparently calling for a ban of the film's release.
