Columbia Pictures to Adapt Goosebumps - Children's horror series

Columbia Pictures has hired writing tandem Larry Karaszewski and Scott Alexander to write the live-action, feature film adaptation of the hugely popular Goosebumps book series by author R.L. Stine. Original Films and Scholastic Entertainment will jointly produce the picture.

There have been direct-to-video versions of book already released, but Columbia sees the series as a possible franchise, thanks to the print popularity of the books, which pay homage to classic horror flicks such as Night of the Living Dead and employ twist endings. In terms of sales, the only series to rival Goosebumps, which has seen over 50 books, is Harry Potter. Columbia acquired the rights to the series in May.

Producer Neal Moritz plans to cast young leads and surround them with a well-known support cast. Karaszewski and Alexander have worked together on Ed Wood and The People vs. Larry Flynt, for which they won a Golden Globe for Best Screenplay.
