Bright Eyes singer Conor Oberst has dropped his libel lawsuit against a fan who accused him of sexually assaulting her. The fan, Joanie Faircloth issued a statement last week, confessing she made up lies in her online postings about Oberst. She posted a fake story, saying that Oberset assaulted her, in the comments section of a feature on XOJane.
Oberst's legal team identified Faircloth as the poster and then brought a lawsuit against her.
Faircloth issued a statement saying personal issues lead to her making up the story.
Now, Oberst dismissed the suit, saying, "This has been extremely difficult and stressful for me personally and for those I love. I'm appreciative of the family, friends, fans and business partners who supported me throughout this and look forward to happier times as we all move forward with our lives."
What a class act.
Are you a fan of Conor Oberst? What do you think of his decision to drop the suit against someone who made up lies about him, which could have, but thankfully did not damage his reputation?
