"Cougar Town" Won't Change Its Name

What's in a name nowadays? ABC's Cougar Town won't be changing its name after all! While the show has evolved from a single-woman-on-the-prowl sitcom to dysfunctional-family comedy, hence making the moniker a little misleading, producer Bill Lawrence told Entertainment Weekly that the title will remain as is.
"I'm not changing the title," Lawrence said to the publication. "We never thought of a good new one, which kind of sucks. And when you look at the modern landscape of television, changing the title means changing your DVR and all this other stuff." That is a good idea, since changing the title is like changing horses in mid-stream and could lead to a lot of confusion, money spent on marketing amendments and could cause a dreaded loss of viewership due to confusion, since the public isn't always that bright on such matters.
Lawrence says he's hopeful the publicity surrounding the proposed title change will "get the message out that Cougar Town has become a different (and vastly improved) show. It'll be a funny burden to have. It might be the worst titled show of all time." Ah, Bill, it's just a title. If you build it, they will come.
Do you watch Cougar Town? Do you think the name/title really matters?
