Courtney Love is going opera…sort of. The cultural lightning rod will perform in an opera entitled Kansas City Choir Boy next January.
The show will be held at Manhattan Art Center as part of the Prototype: Opera/ Theatre/ Now project for 10 performances. It's being billed as "experimental" opera and runs from January 8 to 17, 2015.
Love will play the lead role. Composer Todd Almond, spoke about the casting, to The New York Times, saying, "I've always been fascinated with her. I love her voice, and I think she's a great actress. And I thought she would find the character interesting."
Almond also said it would not be an opera in the sense of traditional opera style. "I mean it in the sense that it's a group of songs that tell a story," he explained. "I write musicals, I write plays and I write what I call opera."
Does this sound like a mess on paper that could be flawless in execution?
