Cut Chemist to Release Sound of the Police - Live mix CD highlights music from and inspired by Africa and South America

Turntablist Cut Chemist is going global. Sound of the Police is a live mix CD that is due out July 27 and boasts music from and inspired by Africa and South America. The turntablist's hip-hop roots are on full-display here, as the title tips its hat to the classic Boogie Down Productions song of the same name all the while referencing Ethiopia's military bands, which were his primary influence to make this mix. Prior to the album's release, Cut Chemist will make "Disco In Addis," one of its singles, available as a free download at www.cutchemist.com. This live mix disc is Cut Chemist's return to the music world prior to releasing his next full-length LP. He has been on hiatus and has kept busy working on new music and his celebrated collaboration with DJ Shadow for their 2007 seminal live Hollywood Bowl show and corresponding tour for The Hard Sell.

    Who is your favorite turntablist?
