Cyndi Lauper Releases "Hard Candy Christmas"

Oh, ho, the holidays are here, replete with a soundtrack that vacillates between merry and bright one minute, dejected and depressed the next. Perhaps that's simply the best reflection of the consumer state of mind this season, that push and pull between overspending and buyer's remorse.
Cyndi Lauper would like to add her two cents on the subject with the offer of "Hard Candy Christmas." It's a country song that was first featured in a not-so-festive scene with Dolly Parton from the play and film The Best Little Whorehouse In Texas, a ribald flick about prostitutes and the people who love (and hate) them. The track is streaming at Soundcloud and will be available at all digital download and streaming outlets this Friday, including iTunes.
Lauper's contributions to the Christmas canon have long been eccentric, including a collaboration with Frank Sinatra ("Santa Claus Is Coming To Town") and The Hives ("A Christmas Duel"), but this particular number signals the singer's first foray in country. Lauper plans to release her upcoming album Detour, a Nashville-recorded studio effort "showcasing her signature takes on classic country songs from the 1950's and 60's," sometime in 2016.
