It seems as if Daft Punk and The Weeknd have been working in the studio together. Last week, The Weeknd posted a picture of Daft Punk figurines on a speaker to Instagram. At the time, no one thought much of the photo, but we now know a bit more about its inspiration via a Billboard interview.
Consequence of Sound reported, "The magazine [Billboard] had gathered together a "Hitmakers Roundtable," where seven music makers and influencers discussing working in the current pop environment. When asked which artist she'd like to work with, Republic Records' executive VP and head of urban A&R Wendy Goldstein let slip that she was about to check Daft Punk off her list.
""Actually, we have a session coming up in two days … with The Weeknd and Daft Punk. I've always been a massive Daft Punk fan, and this is the first time that I've actually been involved with an artist who's going to go and work with them."
That interview was posted on July 15th, while The Weeknd posted his photo on August 17th. Though nothing has been confirmed, it seems as if there is certainly a correlation between the interview and the posted photograph. Hopefully we'll hear something soon, but Daft Punk is known for playing things pretty close to their chests, so who knows.
Last year, The Weeknd released Beauty Behind the Madness to widespread critical and popular acclaim. Daft Punk have not released an album since 2013's Random Access Memories.
