Damon Dash, co-founder of Roc-A-Fella Records has promised to make a ‘brutally honest' TV drama about the breakup of one of the most important music industry dynasties in recent years.
The story of Roc-A-Fella Records promises to provide as many twists, turns and intrigue as recent TV shows Empire and Power, which share fictionalized accounts of the rap industry. Recent rumors have circulated suggesting that Beyonce's album, Lemonade, addressed the alleged affair between Jay Z and Damon Dash's ex-wife, Rachel Roy.
Damon Dash, who has a reputation for being highly adept at self-promotion, has teamed up with Preachers Of LA producer Lemuel Plummer for the as-yet-untitled show. The two men have already compared their as-yet-untitled show to Vinyl and The People Vs OJ Simpson.
At the height of operations Roc-A-Fella Records was the biggest rap label, dominating the music industry, setting a standard which nothing has equalled to this day. If Dash negotiates all the musical licensing the show should have a strong soundtrack, including some of the most significant artists in the world. Dash claims that the show will feature "as much music as I could get. I know what I own, and there's a lot of different artists that would probably not have a problem with participating. And hopefully Jay doesn't either, but as of yet we haven't crossed that barrier. I'm not worried about that."
