Italian composer and producer Daniele Luppi released the third and final piece to his Italian trilogy. Titled Milano, the album features work by Parquet Courts and Yeah Yeah Yeahs' Karen O in an ongoing homage to 80's Italian fashion. The album's release was preceded by a video for its second track, "Talisa" [feat. Karen O], which hit YouTube on October 3 of this year and features a fashion shoot reminiscent of Michelangelo Antonioni and referencing Giovanni Versace.
Milano follows the second installation in the series, Rome, an Ennio Morricone and spaghetti western-inspired collection featuring Jack White and Norah Jones, with production by Danger Mouse. Rome peaked at number 20 on the UK album charts and at the 11th slot on the US Billboard 200, and lent songs to the fourth season finale of Breaking Bad, as well as the Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg vehicle, 2 Guns.
The new effort is released on Danger Mouse's 30th Century Records, but this time Luppi produced the album himself. Parquet Courts lends a staccato and aggressive sound to the songs, while Karen O's suggestive vocals highlight the fashion industry's enthusiastic employment of sexuality in its design and marketing as she sarcastically flaunts the hollowness of surface appearances.
Milano is currently available for streaming and download across multiple platforms.
