David Bowie has always been a vocal champion of the music he likes, singling out bands like the Arcade Fire and Secret Machines during interviews. Clothing line H & M has therefore given Bowie the opportunity to curate their newly launched High Line Festival in New York City. As the website explains, the festival is "a new multi-discipline arts festival that will be curated every year by a different artist. The inaugural 10-day festival will take place in venues near the High Line, the elevated rail structure soon to open as a public open space, running through the Meatpacking District, West Chelsea and Clinton/Hell's Kitchen."
The ten day festival, taking place May 9-19, will feature performances by Air, the Polyphonic Spree, Deerhoof, and the aforementioned acts in various venues. All proceeds will go to Friends of the High Line, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the old elevated New York railway line of the same name.
