David Bowie, EL VY, Lady Gaga Soar In Top Songs Of The Week - October 15 - 21
Thu, 20 Oct 2016 14:34:46
It's been quite the week when it comes to new songs being released. Two new David Bowie tracks surfaced, "When I Met You" and "No Plan", and both are stunning. Bryson Tiller returned with his first new material since his platinum-selling Trapsoul. Pusha T teamed up with Ty Dolla Sign and Desiigner on "Circles".
Indie artists were also releasing material of note this week. Deerhoof only just released their 17th studio album, The Magic, in June, but are already following up with another EP, and this week we got to hear the first track off of it, "Risk Free". "Adults With Privates", the new song from Heems, appears in the new Viceland show Gaycation, which is hosted by Ellen Page and Ian Daniel. Meanwhile, Sadie Dupuis, of Speedy Ortiz fame, released a new song, "Devil In U", from her solo project Sad13. And that was only the beginning for a week filled with stunning new tracks.
Here are our favorites:
David Bowie - "No Plan"
We were gifted with not one, but two stunning tracks from David Bowie this week. Though both are stunning, we elected to go with "No Plan". You can hear the song at around 46:00 minute mark here or above.
EL VY - "Are These My Jets"
Released as part of the anti-Trump 30 Days, 30 Songs campaign, "Are These My Jets" features a children's choir, a symphony, and lyrics that could only be written and delivered by Berninger, including the eloquently delivered "I like to mix ladies' drinks with my fingers" and "Walrus d*** jewelry for everyone in America!"
Lady Gaga - "A-Yo"
Another song, "A-Yo", was released from Lady Gaga's new album, Joanne, which comes out today. Some people have been calling it an upbeat, country number, we just think it's a funky good time.
The Mary Onettes - "Juna"
The Mary Onettes hail from Sweden, and have just returned with a new single, "Juna", courtesy of Brooklyn-based label Cascine. It's expansive and each beat shimmers with a note of hope. Also check out the absolutely stunning ad campaign for notebook/journal makers Oxford, featuring the song.
