David Bowie's birthday is January 8th. 2017 would have seen the iconic artist turn 70, so to celebrate the life of the man who died just two days after his last birthday, a series of ambitious concerts are being held.
Reports state that an ambitious series of concerts is being mounted, they're called "Celebrate David Bowie", and shows will be held on the same day in a number of different locations all around the world. According the The Guardian the venues will "...have a strong connection to to the artist and his music."
A number of details have been confirmed from certain locations. The London show will feature Gary Oldman as a host - Oldman was previously involved in another Bowie tribute earlier this year - and former Bowie collaborators Mike Garson, Sterling Campbell, Catherine Russell, Holly Palmer and Adrian Belew (Talking Heads, King Crimson).
Brixton's O2 Academy will host the event - the borough is Bowie's birthplace, and it will feature a wealth of as-yet-unnamed bands and guests.
Proceeds from the London performance will be donated to the Children & the Arts foundation, which supports music education for the underprivileged in the U.K.
Details for all other shows will be released in coming weeks - ARTISTdirect will update when more information is made available.
