David Byrne Announces 'How Music Works' Variety Hour
Thu, 11 May 2017 10:02:10
David Byrne may be best known for his work with The Talking Heads, but that has never stopped him from pursuing a variety of other creative endeavors. Just last year he launched a neuroscience driven exhibit in California called "Neurosociety". Now, Byrne is adding to his creative wheelbarrow with a new music-related variety show.
The show will be a one-night event and is scheduled to take place at The Town Hall in NYC on June 1st. Byrne will host and curate the evening, introducing audience members to "amazing performers" that inspire him. A press release explains, it "will include all sorts of performance: music, of course, but also magic, theater, dance, science, and humor… and more."
According to the ticket website, How Music Works is "a stage version of his incisive and enthusiastic book about the musical art form, from its very inceptions to the influences that shape it, whether acoustical, economic, social or technological. Utilizing his incomparable career and inspired collaborations with Talking Heads, Brian Eno, and many others, Byrne taps deeply into his lifetime of knowledge to explore the panoptic elements of music, how it shapes the human experience, and reveals the impetus behind how we create, consume, distribute, and enjoy the songs, symphonies, and rhythms that provide the backbeat of life."
Tickets for the event can be purchased here.
