David Byrne has remixed "How Does the Brain Wave" to benefit P-Funk's Bernie Worrell's Cancer Treatment. Byrne and Worrell originally co-wrote the track back in back in 2007 for Worrell's Baby Elephant project. The track was released as part of their album Turn My Teeth Up!. Jamie Lidell had also added provided a remix of the track to benefit Worrell. Both versions of "How Does the Brain Wave" are available for purchase and streaming. Donors can choose the amount they wish to give. The proceeds will go to help pay Worrell's medical bills. In January, it was revealed that Parliament-Funkadelic co-founder Bernie Worrell had been diagnosed with cancer.
Byrne wrote a note about Worrell on his website, "Bernie is classically trained (as well as having perfect pitch—I've heard him improvise with the sounds of traffic), so he brought those skills to the Afro-Futurism of the P Funk universe… a bit of keyboard cosmos into the funk chants and beats of that world that made it what it was. I learned a lot from that music, and of course from the time spent travelling and playing with Bernie—wordplay, musical attitude and lot more. He informed the musician and composer I was to become."
Worrell toured with The Talking Heads in the 80s and performed on Speaking in Tongues. He also appeared in the band's concert film Stop Making Sense.
