American Idol hosted its season finale last night, awarding David Cook—a 25-year-old bartender from Blue Springs, MO—the show's seventh annual championship at Los Angeles' Nokia Theatre. Cook got 56-percent of a record 97.5 million votes, helping him edge out 17-year-old David Archuleta.
"I am absolutely at a loss for words right now," Cook said as Ryan Seacrest announced his win.
The finale featured a number of special guests, including Seal, ZZ Top, OneRepublic, Bryan Adams, Donna Summer, and past American Idol success stories Carrie Underwood and Jordin Sparks. Contestants from So You Think You Can Dance also helped several of the performers.
An "American Idols Live" tour featuring the show's last 10 competitors will hit North America this summer.
