Want to know what Not Long For This World is?
"Not Long For This World is a collection of eulogies, elegies, epitaphs and swan songs for lost loves, the dear departed and future departees including, inevitably, one's self. Let's now dance whilst the candle still burns bright," said album creator, bassist/vocalist David J, late of Bauhaus and Love and Rockets fame.(History lesson: After Bauhaus split, David J released seven albums with Love & Rockets, whose "So Alive" is one of my fave songs of the '80s. It so reminds me of high school! Sing it with me: "Don't know what color your eyes are baby, but your hair is long and brown!")
David J is pretty much a legend, celebrating his fifth (!) decade in the music scene with Not Long For This World, which will be released on October 18th via Starry Records. It's his eighth solo platter and first proper solo album since 2003. Okay, so he made us wait, but like anything good in life, it was worth waiting for.
Additionally, Smashing Pumpkins mastermind William Patrick Corgan—alt rock fans know him as Billy Corgan—will be partnering with Kerry Brown and Starry Records, alongside St. Rose Records, to release the album. Since David's work has been influential and inspiring to both Billy and Kerry's careers, and they are elated to be releasing this album. We're elated that they are, too! We can't wait to get our hands on it.
Corgan expanded on his appreciation for David J, saying, "I grew up in awe of David J's band Bauhaus for their unique approach to music and like all great artists, David J in his own right has never stopped pushing forward. His ever-curious creativity, collaborative spirit, and openness to new media are an inspiration, and I'm proud to help release his new album." In addition to his bands, David J has issued seven solo albums, and several solo EPs, as well as collaborations and session appearances with the likes of Jane's Addiction, Genesis P. Orridge, Jarboe, author Alan Moore and actress Fairuza Balk, all of whom are quality artists in their own right. Like attracts like, right?
