Deep Forest, the brainchild of French musician Eric Mouquet, returns with the new album, Deep Africa, to be released July 9 on BIG3 Records. The globally recognized Grammy award winning group, whose music has often been described as an "ethnic electronica collective," has sold more than 10 million albums to date.
The album is a tribute to the music that first influenced Mouquet and features collaborations with such world renown African artists as Zam Magadulela, Lokua Kanza, Blick Bassy, Wasis Diop, Olyza, Dany de Mouataba, Alune Wade, David Fall, and Giumba Kouiate.
"It was a privilege to collaborate with such talented African artists on this project," said Mouquet. "We worked openly in the studio, so none of the songs were composed before our sessions. The music was created during the time we spent together, and this process inspired songs with different atmospheres, ranging from electro world, to reggae, and to acoustic ballads. The mix of vintage synthesizers, vocals, and authentic African music produced the warm and wild sound I was looking to create when I set off to make Deep Africa."
The Deep Forest/Deep Africa release is the first in a newly revamped BIG3 label roster. The company is currently moving forward with new alliances and cutting edge artists, developing the new business model that is tailor made for creative established and new artists.
Deep Forest will soon announce dates for their U.S. tour.
