Deerhunter Frontman Explains Atlas Sound Project

Bradford Cox's reputation as the brink-of-madness beanpole on the frontlines of Deerhunter may soon change as he readies a solo project called Atlas Sound. With a sound that's much more sample-based and dreamy than his fulltime band, Let the Blind Lead Those Who Can See But Cannot Feel (due out February 19 through Kranky) was written "on the fly" with "lots of computers" at Cox's disposal and Brian Foote of Nudge at the mixing desk.
Speaking to Billboard.com, Cox admitted, "I don't consider myself to be a conventional songwirter. There's a lot of layering and building upon those layers. That happened when I discovered the fun of multi-tracking." When asked about the album's influences, he added, "I'm really into electronic music, as well as music as therapy ... I wanted this to be close to what I was doing. The Deerhunter sound is very much five personalities, where this is very much me."
A full Atlas Sound tour featuring labelmates White Rainbow and Honey Owens will be announced soon.
