Demi Lovato, who went to rehab in 2010 to address personal issues and has been very frank in the aftermath, told Britain's You magazine that she believes her eating disorder and food issues as innate. She said, "I think I was born with an eating disorder, because I've never had a relationship with food that was normal. I remember looking in the mirror with nappies on thinking, 'You're fat, change it.'"
She also revealed that she started to have a body dismorphic relationship with food at a young age. She said, "I started overeating when I was about eight; I was a binge eater. I would bake a whole plate of cookies and eat them all. Then when I turned 12, I was bullied in school and they called me fat. I went from being an overeater to stopping eating and I lost about 30 pounds. From then on, I continued undereating, but my weight plateaued. I started throwing up to lose weight."
Lovato, 19, says she still has the temptation to skip meals, but her routine that she developed in rehab has kept her a little more regimented and focused.
What do you think of Demi Lovato's candor about her eating disorder? We hope it helps girls her age and younger.
