Depeche Mode have just confirmed a release date for their forthcoming album Spirit, the album they first discussed via a press conference back in October 2016. Along with the confirmation of the album hitting the streets March 17, the band also announced a new single which will be released this Friday. Oh, and there's also a tour — discussed back at the October press conference, and it promises to be big.
Spirit is the follow up to 2013's Delta Machine. James Ford, from Simian Mobile Disco took up production duties, so the lead single — the first taste of new Depeche Mode music in four years — promises to be something worth waiting for. The single also has a timely title: "Where's the Revolution?"
During the October press conference, frontman Dave Gahan said, "We're exceptionally proud of 'Spirit's sound and energy, and we're excited to get back on tour to share it with our fans around the world."
In taking the album on tour, the band have enlisted the help of long time collaborator, the legendary director and photographer Anton Corbijn, who will be responsible for all of the visual elements of the stage show.
The Spirit Tour will visit no less than twenty one countries around the world for a total of thirty two shows throughout the course of the year.
With an ever growing catalog of classic tracks — and new material that promises to be amongst Gahan's best songwriting — the Spirit Tour sounds like it's going to be a hell of an experience for fans of Depeche Mode and Anton Corbijn.
