Depeche Mode's Playing the Angel Will be Turned Into a Musical

Depeche Mode's 2005 album, Playing the Angel, will be turned into a musical theater production. Producer and writer Adrian Buckle has acquired the rights to the songs. He wrote a script, but felt that he needed the rights to the music in order to do it freely and cleanly, creatively and legally! Buckle reached out to the band's manager, who liked the idea and gave him the green light. The story focuses on two abused boys who discover love. It is not a happy story, which Buckle readily admits.
Casting for the musical will begin on June 27.
Aren't there other, better Depeche Mode albums that deserve the musical treatment? Playing the Angel may be a good record, but it's certainly not considered essential at this point in the band's career.
