The upcoming Tupac Shakur biopic has been shrouded in some secrecy, but details about the film have surfaced. Reports indicate the pic will surface on 'Pac's tragic last day on earth. Thug life, yo.
New York Magazine reports that Oscar-nominated screenwriters Stephen J. Rivele and Chris Wilkinson have just been hired to write the biopic and it is speculated that the Antoine Fuqua-directed film could begin shooting by mid-November. No casting announcements have been made, but it is said that Fuqua will hire an unknown to play Tupac. I think that is a wise choice, since this role could make a superstar out of someone obscure.
The goal of the script is to keep the film from feeling like a biopic...even though it is a biopic. The initial draft of the script for this was written in documentary style, putting forward facts about the slain West Coast rapper's life over 25 years. The new script will focus on Tupac's final day, along with flashbacks of the final four years leading up to his demise.
Hard to believe that 'Pac was only 25 when he died. It feels like so long ago.
Would you prefer the Tupac pic to be a documentary or to focus more on his final day? Which angle for this biopic (or non-biopic biopic) entices you more? br>
