It might have seemed like a forgone conclusion that DJ Khaled would top the Billboard 200 with his new album Grateful, but things ended up much closer than expected. Imagine Dragons came out strong with their new album Evolve. In the end only 2,000 total copies separated the two. Nonetheless, Khaled was able to hold off the upstart rockers and scored his second straight number one album. Last year, his record Major Key also topped the Billboard charts.
It was a major change atop the Billboard charts, which for the past three weeks has been topped by different female solo artists, Halsey, then Katy Perry, and most recently Lorde. All three fell of the top tier of the chart this week.
Two more new released broke into the chart's top echelon this week. Prince's Purple Rain returned to the Top 10 at number four thanks to the album's remastered and rarities-filled reissue, while 311 deuted in the top ten once again with their new LP Mosaic, coming in at number six.
On the rest of the chart, Kendrick Lamar held steady at number three on the chart. 2 Chainz' Pretty Girls Like Trap Music fell to number five, Ed Sheeran's Divide held at seven, Drake's More Life dropped to eight, Bruno Mars' 24K Magic climbed one slot to number nine, and the Moana soundtrack came in at number 10.
