DJ Shadow, Mac Miller, Big Sean Soar In Top Music Videos Of The Week - December 16th
Thu, 15 Dec 2016 15:15:41
Christmas is just around the corner, and many of the biggest names in music have already headed out on vacation - probably to some tropical island resort, Aspen, or Chamonix. However, there are still a number of artists looking to squeeze the last bit out of 2016, and have gifted some stunning music videos. Mac Miller, who has already had a very successful year, teamed up with Ariana Grande in the longing-filled video for "My Favorite Part". Detroit rapper Big Sean meanwhile bathed in a colorful sunset in "Bounce Back".
Passion Pit's Michael Angelakos has been hard at work on a Christmas video album, which he has done the soundtrack for. DJ Shadow took a look at attempted alien abductions in "Bergschrund" [ft. Nils Frahm]. And that was only the beginning for a week filled with stunning music videos.
Here are our favorites:
Mac Miller - "My Favorite Part" [ft. Ariana Grande]
Mac Miller and Ariana Grande star in the video for "My Favorite Part", which features the collaborators as next door neighbors who are pining for one another. In a year that has seen Miller team up with some of the most explosive acts around, including Anderson .Paak and Kendrick Lamar, "My Favorite Part" continues to show the depth, and emotion that lies behind the rapper's words.
Big Sean - "Bounce Back"
Big Sean bathes in a glowing desert sunset in the video for "Bounce Back". Full of pretty visual elements such as flames, wolves, and - not so surprisingly - butts, the video possess an hallucinatory vibe that pairs strangely well with its rougher lyrics.
Michael Angelakos - "Stained Glass Windows"
Michael Angelakos of Passion Pit has been working with Harlem Shakes' Brent Katz and director Hana Haley video album and accompanying soundtrack called Merry Christmas, Mr. Fields. Set as a "dreamy World War II" musical, the video album is framed as a theatrical adaptation of the story put on by children.
Ab-Soul - "Raw (backwards)"
In the new video for the opening track from Ab-Soul's just released album, Do What Thou Wilt., the rapper performs from atop a truck with a full band. It's a classically styled video, where rowdy fans surround the truck and jump to the vicious words.
DJ Shadow - "Bergschrund" [ft. Nils Frahm]
In the video for "Bergschrund", a drunk looking man leaves a liquor store with a six-pack of beer, simply wanting to go home and enjoy his night. Unfortunately, an alien ship seems to have different plans. There's a strange dance that goes on between the main character and his would-be alien captors who just can't seem to beam him up. It's a perplexing, but highly enjoyable few minutes.
