Damn, it must not feel good to be DMX right about now. The oft-incarcerated rapper is claiming that a royalty company that he hired to collect the monies he is owed for usage of his songs and music has been ripping him for years but due to the fact that he has been jailed so often, he did not realize the problem until now. Whoa. Wait. What? Back the fuck up. He didn't realize he was being stolen from until a decade after the fact? On paper, that sounds unconscionable. But in reality, given DMX's multiple trips to the big house, it makes complete and total sense that he wasn't able to keep on top of his finances. The rapper filed a lawsuit on Monday, April 26 against Rich Kid Entertainment 1 and related companies. He filed the suit from the Arizona jail in which he is imprisoned. America: Where it really is the land of the free, even when you're not free!

In his suit, the platinum-selling DMX alleges that Rich Kid 1 paid him nothing while collecting royalties on some of his most popular work. The company also made deals letting record labels reproduce his work without telling him. "From 2000 through 2008, [DMX] was in and out of jail and changed representatives numerous times. These were some of the factors contributing to any delay" in bringing the case, the lawsuit notes.

Does DMX have a leg to stand on with this suit? Should he have kept a better eye on his money? If people can earn Master's degrees while behind bars, couldn't he work on an accounting ledger for his funds?
