Don't Mess With M.I.A.

M.I.A. is a bitch you don't want to fuck with who is also about to release her next album, so drumming up some inflammatory publicity can get the record sellin' job done. The singer was so incensed by a recent New York Times Magazine cover story and how the article depicted her that she Tweeted the phone number of reporter Lynn Hirschberg, according to The Huffington Post. The article, titled "M.I.A.'s Agitprop Pop," suggests that the singer is aligned with and affiliates with political groups known to employ terrorist methods. It also investigates M.I.A.'s views about her native Sri Lanka and points out that she does not practice what she preaches.
M.I.A. Tweeted the phone number, indicating that it was her phone number and that she would be taking calls to set the record straight about the story. Unfortunately for Hirschberg, people didn't "get" what M.I.A. was doing and her phone was overloaded with calls from those who saw the Twitter post.
Hirschberg was much less inflammatory in her response to M.I.A. giving out her digits, calling it "fairly unethical" but not surprising, all the while being infuriating. She also called the singer a provocateur aiming to be well, provocative.
Were M.I.A.'s actions unethical or was the author of the article asking for it?
