A few years ago, selling 447,000 copies of your debut album would be considered chump change, but in 2010, when CDs are a dying medium and kids expect music for free or prefer digital downloads, 447,000 copies moved get you a #1 debut. But it's all based on market conditions, son! Congrats to Drake, whose Thank Me Later sold 447,000 copies, which was enough for it to debut at #1 on the Billboard Top 200 albums chart. It's the third-best sales week of the year for a single album.
Drake's first week was bested only by Lady Antebellum and Sade, who sold 481,000 and 502,000, respectively, during their first weeks. Drake also has the highest new entry on the Digital Songs chart, where his "Up All Night" enters at No. 22 with 57,000 downloads sold, according to Billboard.
Did you check out Drake's new album? Should his label thank him now?
