While DreamWorks Films and its head honcho Steven Spielberg are packing their bags and taking the company elsewhere, DreamWorks Animation will remain with Paramount, the parent company Spielberg is splitting with.
DreamWorks Animation has a distribution deal with Paramount that runs through 2012. Despite sharing the same name, DWA will have no business relationship with the departed DreamWorks. While the animated arm and the live action studio have operated independently of one another for several years, most industry insiders did not expect DreamWorks and Paramount to part so abruptly, which left the fate of DWA up in the air. However, whether DWA will renew with Paramount when its contract is up is anyone's guess.
In other Paramount news, the studio has re-upped its deal with Marvel Studios. Paramount will distribute five more of Marvel's self-produced films.
