Ed Sheeran, Lady Gaga, & Nicki Minaj Cure Top Music Videos Of The Week - May 5
Thu, 04 May 2017 14:18:47
The stars were certainly out this week and you can bet they will continue to be in this packed weekend filled with Cinco de Mayo and the Kentucky Derby. Despite all that's happening, some of the biggest names in music still released mesmerizing new videos. As usual, the brightest stars shined on the biggest stages.
Ed Sheeran ran through the streets of Galway, Ireland with a blonde girl in his new video for "Galway Girl". You may have hear that the Met Gala took place this week and unfortunately Lena Dunham ended up in the hospital — don't worry she was released after a series of tests. Meanwhile, she took the director's chair for her boyfriend's newly released music video for — Don't Take the Money".
It's always a big deal when Lady Gaga unveils a new video, but this time she took a slightly less MASSIVE approach to the whole situation. "The Cure" may be a lyric video, but in usual Gaga fashion, it's still mesmerizing. And that was only the beginning for a week filled with dazzling new music videos.
Here are our favorites:
Ed Sheeran — "Galway Girl"
Ed Sheeran shot the video for "Galway Girl" himself from the first-person perspective on location in Galway, Ireland. It gives a sense of authenticity to the clip, which only adds to the aura of an artist already known for wearing his heart on his sleeve. The kind of night projected is one that only a pop star could have, but at the same time Sheeran is able to give an everyman sense to proceedings.
Bleachers — "Don't Take the Money"
Having your girlfriend direct your music video already seems like it might be a big risk, add in the context of the clip being about a dumbfounded groom at his own backyard wedding, and the results could be disastrous. That's not the case in "Don't Take the Money", however. Instead we end up with glowing 80s feeling wrong-love story that fits perfectly with the track.
Lady Gaga — "The Cure"
"The Cure" came as a surprise to Gaga's entire Coachella audience, and to home listeners as well. In another surprise, Gaga released a lyric video for the track this week that is wonderfully dreamlike. The singer lounges in an all-satin room while the camera moves around and the lyrics sit outside the box twisting around the frame. It's almost like she's floating or swimming.
Nicki Minaj — "Regret in Your Tears"
Speaking of submersion, Nicki Minaj dives deep underwater in an enchanted glade full of old pickup trucks, trees, and, yep you guessed it, mermen. It's a stunning beautiful underwater video that sees Minaj floating to the top of the artist crop in 2017.
Amber Coffman — "No Coffee"
Spilling coffee on yourself first thing in the morning is not usually the sign of a good day to come. But things aren't all bad in the pink-hued walls of Coffman's coffee-less room, and she is even able to find love with a lucky bald eagle.
